A new, improved version of the Pneumococcal vaccine (Prevnar-13, or PCV-13) has recently replaced the older version (Prevnar-7, or PCV-7). If your child already finished the 4-dose series with all 4 doses of Prevnar-7, and is still under age 5, then he or she should receive a “supplemental” single dose of Prevnar-13. Please call our office for an appointment!
Prevnar (pneumococcal conjugate vaccine) protects young children against serious infections from the common invasive strains of these bacteria – including meningitis, blood infections, and pneumonia, and even some ear infections.
You can learn more about it by taking a look at the CDC’s Vaccine Information Statement.
